Learning Supports for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
ACCESS
The Adapting Curriculum and Classroom Environments for Student Success (ACCESS) project at the University of Delaware’s Center for Disabilities Studies is designed to provide educators, families and community members the necessary tools to improve educational outcomes for students with significant intellectual disabilities including autism.
Through professional development and technical assistance, educators are provided with lesson planning resources, adapted curriculum materials and model units based on the Delaware Content Standards. The ACCESS project also addresses how to balance standards-based instruction with the many other outcome areas that are vital for students with autism such as daily living, real life application and vocational training. Standards Based IEPs
The W.R.I.T.E.S. Standards-based IEP Initiative is a project developed to train educators about writing data-driven IEPs which promote access to the Common Core State Standards. Training is provided to teachers on how to identify and prioritize skills that students will need to successfully access grade-level curriculum. A wide range of skills can be addressed depending on the student’s needs and can address areas of growth that are non-academic as well. Follow-up coaching is also provided to select districts in order to further develop these individualized IEPs.
